Corinna Rosteck

“The photographs of Corinna Rosteck defy rapid recognition: the objects on which the artist focuses obtain the character
of a fleeting appearance. For Corinna Rosteck believes more in the vague impression which adheres to her motifs in the
moment she photographs them than the presumed illustrative precision of the medium. This attitude encourages a markedly
subjective vision: ‘as seen’, through the eyes of Corinna Rosteck.

In doing so she uses irritating mirror effects which – after digital processing – makes a separation of the levels of reality
almost impossible: what is in the foreground, what is real, what is nonsensical? This impression is reinforced by the
reflective surface of her media. The digital surface of the photographs softens their stark contrasts: Bodies lose their sharp
contours and begin to dissolve. Even the rigid architecture loses some of its hardness and unrealness as soon as the
structured construction of its facades soften into diffuse areas of color. The result reveals a genuinely painting-like quality.
The viewer can no longer recognize the original motif. For the artistic treatment veils what is up and what is down, what is
back and what is front of the surfaces.”
